The standards and technologies behind modern AV systems. Choosing equipment built on them means systems from different brands work together, are easy for people to use, and can grow later without starting again. Here is what each one does and where we use it.
Open standards
- Audio over IP
Dante
Many channels of uncompressed audio over a standard network, between rooms, floors and buildings.
- Signal extension
HDBaseT
Video, audio, USB, control and power over one category cable, up to 100 metres and more.
- AV over IP
SDVoE
Uncompressed-quality 4K video over 10G Ethernet with no visible delay, for control rooms and large venues.
- Video over IP
NDI
Live video, audio and camera control over the local network, for studios, churches and streaming.
- Streaming
SRT
Secure, reliable live video over the internet, even on unstable connections.
- IP cameras
ONVIF
An open standard so IP cameras, recorders and video systems from different makers work together.
- Open AV over IP
IPMX
An open AV over IP standard built on SMPTE ST 2110 and AMWA NMOS, the same base used in broadcast. Devices from different brands can share video, audio and control on one network without being locked to one maker.
- Broadcast audio
Auracast
Bluetooth broadcast audio. A venue sends sound to any number of compatible phones, earbuds and hearing aids, for assistive listening, translation and silent screens.
- One cable
USB-C
Video, data, charging and room peripherals over one connector. Plug a laptop into the table and the screen, camera and microphones are ready.
Key technologies
- Bring your own device
BYOD
Share your laptop, tablet or phone to the room screen wirelessly or with one cable. No adaptors, no setup, no waiting.
- Bring your own meeting
BYOM
Run Teams, Zoom or any meeting app from your own laptop while using the room camera, microphones, speakers and screen.
- Direct view LED
DvLED
Screens built from LED modules with no bezels, bright enough for daylight and sized to the wall, from boardrooms to control rooms and stages.
- Artificial intelligence
AI in AV
Cameras that frame and follow the speaker, microphones that remove background noise, and systems that transcribe and summarise meetings.
